The Victorian government in Australia has signed a A$5 million
(CAD$4.2 million) contract for the provision of online services to
hospitals, education facilities, local government and state
government organizations.
Citrix Systems will provide its Citrix Presentation Server
products to all organizations covered by the Audit Act as part of
Victoria's e-government strategy for communications.
"The Victorian government's e-government vision recognizes the
value of information and technology to link different government
programs and resources in a seamless way," Victorian government CIO
Jane Treadwell said in a statement.
"It involves coordinating and integrating services and
information from local and federal governments and the private
sector with the aim of making communication and dealings with
government more convenient and simpler for citizens."
E-government has the potential to reduce service delivery costs,
eliminate unnecessary duplication and in some cases make it
possible to meet emerging needs without restructuring agencies or
programs, Treadwell said.
The Bracks government launched its e-government vision in March
2002.
