Nortel president and CEO Mike Zafirovski is set to receive a nomination to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) from President George W. Bush. The NSTAC serves in an advisory capacity to the U.S. president, and provides recommendations and analysis on a variety of technical and policy issues on areas including telecommunications, infrastructure protection and national security.
Zafirovski's role as presidential appointee to the NSTAC would consist of being a resource for the president and his national security team in an attempt to protect critical U.S. telecommunications networks and infrastructure.
Zafirovski's 30 year career includes global management stints with Motorola and General Electric, and he currently serves on the board of directors of Boeing. Educational and non-profit business organizations that he's involved with include The Economic Club of Chicago and The Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
He said he is proud of this honour, and is looking forward to contributing to the committee and "serving the president during what will be a critical new era for technology and communications."
"The rate of technology innovation promises to surpass that of any other time in recent history," Zafirovski said. "We are entering a hyper-connected era that will not only transform the way people interact, but enable work, education and social interaction across all corners of the planet."
