The Government of Alberta is committing $79 million in funding towards students who opt for career and technology studies (CTS) as well as an expansion for programs under their refocused curriculum, according to Premier Ed Stelmach.
He said in a released statement that as a government their focus is on providing opportunities for Alberta students to find their passions and interests in a variety of career areas.
"By expanding these career programs, students will have new learning opportunities in a range of areas from skills training to health programs," said Stelmach.
The provincial government also provided more than $14 million to school jurisdictions for equipment upgrades to more than 100 CTS labs throughout the province via Skills Canada Alberta.
"This partnership between Skills Canada Alberta and the government complements innovative strategies such as regional skills centres and mobile CTS labs," said Alberta's Education Minister Dave Hancock.
Under Alberta Education's 2008/09 budget, $21.5 million per year over the next three years will go towards the expansion of CTS programming, support curriculum development and upgrade equipment.
The CTS program options include Health, Manufacturing and Transportation, Business, Finance and Information Technology.

The more students that go into tech jobs the more Canada has to hire so-called "TEMPORARY WORKERS" meaning those who are not all that well educated, and thereby enabling the lowering of wages,and, getting rid of that oh so pesky Union. | |
