In fact, the harder you try to declare a technology dead, it seems, the more you turn up evidence of its continuing existence. Nevertheless, after speaking with several industry stalwarts, we've compiled a list of skills and technologies that, while not dead, can perhaps be said to be in the process of dying.

While the demand for skilled IT workers has never been greater, a tighter rein on municipal budgets and overall spending has forced many Canadian cities to place less emphasis on IT staff training. Most municipal IT training is done on a yearly or biannual basis, meaning staff don't necessarily access the most up-to-date information on IT security.

The theft of a laptop from a SickKids physician has resulted in a swift order from Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner, Ann Cavoukian. Cavoukian has ordered the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto to implement specific protection mechanisms, including the strong encryption of any personal data that is taken off-site.
