(5/15/2007) The latest research in Canada's information technology job market suggests demand for skilled IT professionals has reached an all-time high. A report released yesterday by CNC Global Ltd. claims some figures are higher than before the dot-com meltdown. But many companies are also struggling to fill IT positions because of shortages in the talent pool, the firm adds. | (5/10/2007) Users hate passwords. They don't like entering them to gain access to a system; they don't like inventing new ones every 30 or 60 or 90 days; and they really don't like having different passwords for different systems. The more active and mobile the user, the more often they must enter passwords, and so their resentment grows. | (5/8/2007) Being CIO of Trillium Health Centre, it's hardly surprising Wayne Mills is a big supporter of e-health. But he wants the e to stand for enabling. A key step in keeping up with the pace of change is for hospitals to cooperate, he says. "We shouldn't be building hospital-centric solutions, but looking for ways to work with other hospitals and care providers." | (5/7/2007) InterGovWorld presents Procurement for Public Servants 101, a comprehensive pointer to the many online buyer resources available to help public servants achieve efficient and effective procurement practices. Itb s also an outline of some of the top priorities and issues the government is pushing through its Green Procurement agenda. | (4/24/2007) Public sector leadership must be more willing and adaptable to change if they are to successfully transform their core business of service delivery, according to senior level public sector executives for software maker SAP AG. "Public sector service delivery is more complex today than it's ever been...public service isn't just an industry but an eco-system." | (4/23/2007) Health care regionalization has marched its way province by province across Canada, with Ontario coming up last. Today, there are about 103 regional health authorities. Under the auspices of Canada Health Infoway, the provinces are driving the federal e-health agenda to digitize the components needed ultimately for electronic health records (EHRs). | (4/2/2007) Treasury Board Secretariat has launched a full investigation with Canada Revenue Agency into the software bug that brought down the national e-tax filing system for 10 days earlier this month. Gordon O'Grady, deputy assistant commissioner with the IT branch at CRA, talked this week with InterGovWorld senior writer Lisa Williams about the main culprit of the glitch, why it took so long to fix the faulty patch, and the processes behind its post mortem with Treasury Board. | (3/30/2007) Former U.S. President Bill Clinton praised the power of IT saying it should be harnessed to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in the U.S. and abroad. Clinton advocated an electronic medical records (EMR) law and said blogs could aid the U.S. political process in his keynote address at the CTIA Wireless trade show in Orlando, Fla.
| (3/12/2007) Banks and retail firms have been putting up with security failure rates that no government could even consider tolerating. At last, Secure Channel will be mandatory for all federal government departments and agencies. But just as no good deed goes unpunished, it seems no good decision goes unquestioned. | (3/12/2007) After more than a decade of e-government analysis, discussion, policy debate and collaborative brainstorming, only one national program reaches out to all three levels of Canadian government. Five years after its conception, the small phenomenon that's known as BizPaL remains an isolated model of cross-jurisdictional service delivery. CIO Government Review catches up with the little licensing Web app that won't stop growing. | (3/12/2007) After more than a decade of e-government analysis, discussion, policy debate and collaborative brainstorming, only one national program reaches out to all three levels of Canadian government. | | | Unified Communications | | Unity is a word often heard in the public sector, with myriad agencies and departments looking to foster collective thinking around some of today's most pressing issues. The word, however, doesn't usually get mentioned in the same breath as technology. That's a situation, though, that might soon be changing, thanks to a new software platform known as unified communications.
